The primary objective of the Pledge Education
Program is to build character by encouraging participation in the
many
aspects
of
life at Penn. One of the cardinal principles of
the Program is that scholarship must be given the important position
that it deserves in the life of every student. This attitude is
enforced with study halls for pledges and is reflected in the scholastic
achievements of the colony.
In addition, the program emphasizes
the importance of a well-rounded personality and strong interpersonal
skills to
accompany intellectual achievement. Social activities, intramural
athletics, and participation in campus activities all work to
develop
members and make the life of a Delt more enjoyable and rewarding.
Skills that are taught to pledges include leadership,
teamwork, interpersonal skills, social skills, study skills, community
service skills, goal setting, public speaking, planning and organization.
Pledges are required to complete a series of tasks that exhibits
and exemplifies these qualities.
The Delt's Pledge Education Program seeks to
unify the pledge class and the entire chapter with the certainty
that
all will grow from the experiences shared. The primary responsibility
of pledges is to establish the bonds of friendship among the pledges
and active members of the chapter.
By drawing a pledge into the chapter, he
is introduced to the goals of the fraternity. The chapter will help
all pledges to attain their goals. The Delts all work to maintain
a brotherhood in which each member can fully realize his
potential as a student, as a citizen, and as a man.
